How to find seed if I'm playing on someone's server?

  • #1 Jul 15, 2017

I'm on a multi player server and I am trying to find the seed for our world. I ask a mod and he said he couldnt give it out. So is there some way I can do it otherwise? I want to find slime chunks using the slime finder app.

I do know how to find slimes the hard way

That's way too complicated. Also, if once I found the slimes after using this seed app, would I be able to uninstall the MultiMC without messing anything up in the minecraft folder? Would I be able to play just using the minecraft launcher without having to redownload stuff?

You can transfer the save to the .minecraft folder to use it in the normal launcher. Since MultiMC is separate, it won't mess anything up.

You do not need MultiMC to use mods; I have no problems with the official launcher, which even lets you make your own profiles with their own versions and even separate directories (the main advantage that launchers like MultiMC had prior to the 1.6+ launcher, although it can still be easier to use a launcher specifically designed for mods).

Also, cheats do not need to be enabled in order to use the /seed command; it only doesn't work in multiplayer since the remote server does not send it out so they can keep it secret precisely for reasons like this (or finding where diamonds, dungeons, structures, etc are by simply recreating the world in singleplayer). Some servers have plugins that try to prevent mods like WorldDownloader from working, or even make changes to prevent reverse engineering a seed from the locations of structures (this is actually possible, if only for advanced users). Note that doing anything to get the seed without permission can be grounds for a ban.
